On the Bench: Tau Stealthsuits (Bases)

Photobucket

In this edition of “On the Bench”, we review how the bases on my Tau Stealth Suits were accomplished.

Prep
1. Each base was covered with Elmer’s white glue and dipped into a container of fine sand. The glue was allowed to dry overnight.
2. Next, each base was primed with black primer and “washed” with Chaos Black. Again, the models were allowed to dry over night.

Paint
3. The base was give a coat of Vallejo Dark Fleshtone (3:3, Dark Fleshtone: Thinner) and allowed to dry.
4. A heavy drybrush of Vallejo Cobra Leather was applied.
5. 1 or 2 drops of Bleached Bone was added to the Cobra Leather mixture. A mixture was drybrushed onto the base.
6. 2 to 4 drops of Bleached Bone was added to the last step’s mixture and applied using a lighter drybrushing.
7. 6 to 8 drops of Bleached Bone was added to the last step’s mixture and applied using an even lighter drybrushing.
8. The outside edge of the base was given a couple coats of Bestial Brown.

Flock
9. A few drops of Elmer’s white glue were applied to spots on the painted base.
10. Small clumps of static grass were pressed onto the glue.

  1. I'm always amazed by the level of detail and the amount of layers you painters put into even the the smallest parts of a model. The end result looks great, but it seems so effort-driven...
